From the Concert Stage of the Koszalin Philharmonic - The Philharmonic inaugurated its 53rd season with a concert in honor of the 50th anniversary of the artistic work of Kazimierz Rozbicki (on Sept. 26), which necessarily limits the extent of this review to a mere account of the facts. The concert featured the première performance of the second version of my orchestration of the violoncello sonata by Chopin (I called this form a “sinfonia concertante”). While preparing a new set of the orchestral parts of this piece (the old one being already quite worn out, as the first version had been performed in concerts several times), I made many significant changes in the score, mainly by enriching the role of the orchestra to give it a truly symphonic quality and emphasizing the development of Chopin’s idea, while leaving the piano part in extenso. Joanna Marcinkowska flawlessly played the latter instrument, having learnt her part by heart and harmonizing with the symphonic element. Both the conductor Ruben Silva and the orchestra reached new heights of artistic excellence. The audience rewarded this version of Chopin’s piece with prolonged applause. (...)
